Did you ever thought of designing your computer as if it is like in Iron Man movie? Where your desktop shows you all the list of commands or functions or the apps. You can even design with pretty handy and awesome clocks, weather notes and many other. You can design your desktop to such an extent that where you can manage your CPU, RAM , Memory stats and all the functions of your PC.

There is one solution and a best option for doing all those. The answer is Rainmeter. It’s an applications which lets you design your Desktop with amazing icons with great interface and awesome look. Here is a clear explanation of how to use Rainmeter ,its themes or skins. Here themes and skins are of same meaning don’t get confused.

Its an application which displays customizable themes, like memory and battery power, RSS feeds and weather forecasts, right on your desktop. Many themes are even functional: they can record your notes and to-do lists, launch your favourite applications, and control your media player – all in a clean, unobtrusive interface that you can rearrange and customize to your liking. Rainmeter is at once an application and a toolkit. You are only limited by your imagination and creativity. Its an open source software distributed free of charge.
 
First download the latest version of it and install it.

How To Design your Desktop ?

After installing Rainmeter open it and under Skins tab you find only one skin with limited widgets. But to design your PC with that only one skin or theme is not possible, so we need variety of themes. You can get skins or themes from external parties. Here I provided a list of Good Rainmeter themes. Just click here to download.
 
After downloading the themes, if it is a zip then unpack it and copy the Skins folder to the Rainmeter folder by replacing it. In windows you can go to ‘C Drive →Users → My Documents →Rainmeter folder and replace the skins folder with the one you downloaded.
Now go to the Rainmeter and under Skins tab, you now find lot of skins with variety of widgets. (If you don’t then click the ‘Refresh all’ button at the bottom .)

If you have downloaded ‘.rmskin’ format skins, you can directlty install it and refresh to find those skins.
 
Now you are done with installing the skins.
 
Now to load any Skin on your desktop just click on the skin folder which you want under Skins tab.
 
And then subfolder in it and now you find .ini file in it.  Just click that “.ini” file and to the right of that you find “Load” option just click, your skin widget gets loaded and you can find it on your desktop.  In this way you can install different types of Skin widgets.

Customizing Skin’s Widgets

You can customize the widgets easily, just hover the mouse on the widget on your desktop and right click on it, you find a pop up with different options like settings, Edit , manage skin (the home menu). Based on your choice of designing you can adjust the position, transparency, size, moving option, left click option of your widget. You even can customize your widgets by editing .ini files also, but for that you need to know little bit of those codes used to design these widgets.
